Empowering a healthier you through Functional Nutrition

What is functional nutrition?

Functional Nutrition is about finding the right way for each of us as individuals to eat—using food to maximize the potential for health and reverse dysfunction or disease. Poor-quality food can actually create disease, and high-quality food—in the right proportions and amounts—can reverse disease and sustain health. In a very real sense, food is medicine! The low hanging fruit in disease prevention is functional nutrition!

How to eat to achieve wellness?
The first article you read tells you fat is bad, the very next one might tell you there are good fats and bad fats.
One blog tells you carbs are bad, another one emphasizes eating carbs from whole foods.
Some tell you to eat 6 times a day to improve metabolism and another talk tells you to eat only two meals a day.
Information overload? Confused???
Do you think low energy, allergies, bloating is just part of life and getting old?
I was confused, frustrated, and had a similar dilemma when trying to find answers and so went back to school to find answers in evidence-based nutrition.
The low hanging fruit in disease prevention is NUTRITION!
Let's take care of that and the rest all will fall in place

Are your fasting glucose numbers consistently high?
Were you warned by your physician that you might be trending towards pre-diabetes (insulin resistance)?
Are you able to manage your diabetes with medications?
Does the physician need to increase the medication dose to keep your diabetes under control?
The 21st century has brought with it a rapid increase in the incidence of chronic diseases fueled by increased inflammation, insulin resistance, abdominal fat, and high blood pressure.
It is a classic which came first scenario-chicken or the egg? Insulin resistance or abdominal fat?
The goal is to break the vicious cycle and come out ahead!

Are you tired of weight comebacks?
Did you see little to no success with calorie counting or calorie reduction?
Did you try multiple diets with success but have also seen weight comebacks after success?
Are you looking for ways to achieve sustainable weight loss?
I had tried multiple diets and supplements, working out super hard, trying to lose weight for years and so can understand your frustration.
All diets have been shown to achieve weight loss over 6 months, then the body adapts- weight plateaus and then weight regain follows.
That is because weight gain is not a caloric imbalance but could be hormonal or due to detoxification imbalance or due to some toxins.
My goal is to understand the root cause and then work to remove or add stuff to bring balance.

Are you diagnosed with an autoimmune disease like Hashimoto’s or Rheumatoid Arthritis and are looking for additional support to put autoimmunity to remission?
Do you feel bloated or sick after consuming certain foods?
Do you have gluten sensitivity?
Do you have other food sensitivities or intolerances?
Do you experience recurrent sore throat, clogged sinuses, or get frequent headaches?
Do you struggle with insomnia, fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, or depression?
My personal experience with Hashimoto’s is a close one. Of the eight close family members, four have hypothyroidism. While hypothyroidism cannot be reversed, my husband was able to put his autoimmunity into long-term remission by identifying and removing the trigger.
